Description
Imported
Large muskox sculpture by Michael Amarook carved during the early–mid 1960s in Baker Lake (Qamani’tuaq), Nunavut. Stone body with natural antler horns. Acquired at First Arts, Inuit & First Nations Art auction, December 2024. Previously sold at Waddington’s, Toronto, Inuit Art Auction, August 2018, Lot 242; earlier provenance includes Norman Zepp & Judith Varga, Saskatoon. Amarook produced only a limited number of large-scale animal carvings from this period. A smaller muskox by the artist from the same era is illustrated in Swinton (page 92, cat. 700), confirming the significance of this early work.
