Small muskox carved in serpentine with inset antler horns by Mark Tungilik, circa 1970, Repulse Bay (Naujaat), Nunavut. Rounded body and simplified features characteristic of Tungilik’s animal forms from this period. In excellent condition with warm surface and intact horn elements.

Imported
Mark Tungilik (1913–1986) was an Inuit sculptor from Repulse Bay (Naujaat), Nunavut. A pioneering carver in the Kivalliq region, he created small and medium-scale figures of Arctic animals from locally quarried serpentine, often incorporating antler as a natural horn element. His work is celebrated for its rounded forms, expressive simplicity, and approachable charm, reflecting the rise of the contemporary Inuit art movement in the mid-20th century. Tungilik’s sculptures remain sought after by collectors for their spirited character and strong cultural identity.
